Regional and remote supervisors and managers are the winners with a new education program for management and business education at Central Queensland Institute of TAFE.
Gary Wood, Educational Program Manager for Business at CQ TAFE Rockhampton Campus, said the diploma programs released earlier this year had helped people gain skills in Management, Human Resources Management and Business, without students having to travel to Rockhampton to take part.
"The difference between these programs and others is we use the latest approaches to learning design that give people flexibility as well as significant support from teachers," Mr Wood said.
"The programs are designed around an instructional design concept called blended and distributed learning. This means instead of a program offering one type of delivery, such as online or classroom based, this program offers multiple delivery options,' he said.
Mr Wood said while the programs were flexible, they were still highly structured so that students knew exactly what was expected of them.
"This might not appeal to everybody, but our experience shows people studying through this model need and appreciate clear guidelines," he said.
Gary should know - he was a leader in this area of vocational education and training in the State before taking up his current position at CQ TAFE.
"CQ TAFE is an educational Institute which deals with practical skills that make a difference in the workplace," he said.
"Our management programs use technology such as online learning, work books and video streaming to provide flexibility and to cater to different learning preferences.
"However, we also ensure a very practical approach to assessment and a structured approach to learning.
"For those who wish to have regular contact with their teacher we provide video conferencing sessions weekly or fortnightly.
"Teachers are also available through email and telephone."
