CQ TAFE English learning students join in on 'Walk Together' event
Wednesday, 27 June 2012 9:12AM - Rockhampton Campus
News in brief:
Ten Central Queensland Institute of TAFE English Learning students joined several hundred people in the "Walk Together" event in Rockhampton on June 23 to welcome new migrants to Australia.
News in detail:
Adult Migrant Education Program (AMEP) teacher Tina Stritzke said the walk brought a close to Refugee Week celebrations in the city.
"The event acknowledged that although some of us have arrived here via different pathways, we share a common Australian journey," Ms Stritzke said.
"Ten of our students joined some CQ TAFE staff in the walk which began at the Rockhampton Police Citizens Youth Club and ended at the Riverside Parklands."
Ms Stritzke said CQ TAFE's AMEP program has helped dozens of people better their English skills, enabling them to find work or move into further study.
"With our help, they are now able to contribute to and feel like they are a part of our community," she said.
