News in brief:

Central Queensland TAFE celebrates Naidoc Week by hosting an ambrose golf day on Saturday 07/07/2007 at Melaleuca Golf Course in Mackay

News in detail:

To tee off the NAIDOC Week celebrations for 2007, Central Queensland TAFE hosted an ambrose golf day on Saturday (07/07/07) at the Melaleuca Golf Course in Mackay.

CQ TAFE's Manager of Indigenous and South Sea Islander Programs, Dion Barnett said a number of teams participated in the annual golf day including teams from our community and government agencies and a CQ TAFE team.

The theme of this years NAIDOC week is 50 Years: Looking Forward, Looking Blak', which aims to encourage all Australians to reflect on the achievements of Indigenous Australians, as well as looking to the future.

Mr Barnett said "The golf day was a great opportunity for the community to gather together to support and recognise the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC week".

The event was a success and provided an opportunity for CQ TAFE to create stronger community connections, and celebrate NAIDOC week.

There is strong recognition among community leaders that education and training are key factors in creating a brighter future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

"We actively seek the input of local groups and individuals to ensure our programs are culturally appropriate and meet community and industry expectations."

NAIDOC celebrations will continue with a Family Day at Queens Park on Friday 13 July, commencing with a street march from the Whitsunday Hotel at 10am.

Mr Barnett said "if you are coming along to enjoy the Family Fun Day, take the opportunity to visit the CQ TAFE stall and receive first hand information from staff members about our range of programs and career pathways that TAFE has to offer."
