19 High School Students from Gladstone Region showcase their Business skills at Futures Enterprise Trade Fair.News in detail:
Chainsaws, power tools and handyman tools are just some of the virtual stock that will be on sale when 19 high school students showcase their business skills at the Central Queensland Institute of TAFE's Futures Enterprise Trade Fair today. (24/8/07)The Trade Fair will be held at Central Queensland TAFE Gladstone Campus from 10:30am to 11:45am.
"Students will sell 'virtual' hardware goods and services to customers, who will use mock cash vouchers to make purchases at the fair.
Institute Director Steve Mathieson said the fair would give business students the opportunity to put their skills and knowledge into practice by setting up displays, selling and marketing the virtual products from the Tools Division of Futures Virtual Enterprise.
"The virtual enterprise is a popular way for students to gain 'real-life' business experience and to develop their office administration skills by performing business related transactions including invoicing and ordering products, payroll documentation, presenting reports, attending meetings and marketing the firm.
"Students act as employees in an office environment and undertake all business procedures as they trade virtual goods and services with other training and educational organisations in the virtual enterprise network across Australia.
"This is an innovative way for students to gain business qualifications that can be quickly transferred to a 'real' office environment in positions including receptionists, administrative assistants, finance assistants and word processing operators.
"Holding Trade Fairs with actual customers is another way to give students practical experience by allowing them to utilise and demonstrate skills learnt throughout their course including communication and customer service, decision-making, problem solving, and team work to achieve positive outcomes," Mr Mathieson said.
Currently, the 19 high school students from around the Gladstone Region are working towards achieving the Certificate II in Business and Certificate III in business administration by attending class one day a week.
