TAFE art works to colour the coast
Thursday, 29 May 2008 4:51PM - Rockhampton Campus
News in brief:
Capricorn Coast TAFE art students will show off their talents at an exhibition of their work next month.
News in detail:
The works are the result of a 16-week Experimental Drawing course using newly designed cast-coated papers created for the graphic arts industry.
Layer upon layer of colour builds up into a unique effect of rich, translucent colour.
Participant Maaret Sinkko will exhibit her series of works focusing on crows. She said she had enjoyed her weekly TAFE lesson.
"I can't do a full-time course, but these short courses are great and now it's at Yeppoon it's achievable," Maaret said.
"This is fantastic because you get to experiment with different techniques.
Working with different media is enjoyable, as is working with (teacher) Peter (Indans) and the others in the group because we give each other feedback and ideas.
"It's a credit to TAFE to have the courage to provide art classes in Yeppoon.
"There's a very strong art community here and parts of the community are becoming more educated about art.
"Society is becoming aware of how important it is to have artists as a part of the community," Maaret said.
Ross Coulter is a well-known Emu Park artist who has taken the class.
"The thing with Peter (Indans) is that he has so much experience and has done so much work with TAFE students that he is always looking at things and different ways of expressing them and he has got it down to a fine art," Ross said.
"We have got to learn to think differently with this technique because you are building up layer upon layer of colour to build up this rich colour.
"It's good to pick his brain and adapt and use what we learn in our own way."
The exhibition is at the Capricorn Coast Campus of CQ TAFE, 26, Tabone Street, Yeppoon, from 2pm to 4pm on Saturday 14 June. If you would like to attend, phone 4925 0333.
