External study

The definition of external study (also called distance education): "a mode of study in which students enrolled in an education or training program do not attend the institution, but study off-campus and may submit assignments by mail or email."

Short courses

Not sure what you want to study? Want to cultivate a creative talent or hobby? Whether it's for personal fulfilment or for better employment opportunities with your career, Central Queensland Institute of TAFE offers a wide range of non-accredited short courses without formal assessment and short accredited courses to upgrade your skills.

Our short courses are often a stepping stone to further study and are a great way to get a taste for a study area, learning new skills or pursuing an interest - fast!

By constantly learning new things, we keep growing and aim to reach our full potential.  No matter what your circumstances, there is almost certainly a CQ TAFE course for you!

Non-accredited courses

Sometimes referred to as Adult Community Education (ACE) courses, these non-accredited courses are advertised locally by various institutes. They are a great way to get a taste for a skill area, and are often a step along your learning pathway to even greater possibilities.

Adult Community Education courses are open to people over 15. Typically, course duration is two to three hours weekly, over six to eight weeks, or full day Saturday workshops.

Accredited short courses

Some short courses are accredited and designed to provide knowledge and skills across a wide range of topics, including art, computers, wine appreciation, small business, languages and sport.

To find out more about what short courses are available, check out the Program Guide 2012 or view our Short courses.
